My first TED Talk was called A Shark-Deterrent Wet Suit, by: Hamish Jolly. This video was interesting and fascinating. In this TED Talk Jolly talked about how recently in Australia there had been an increased amount of shark attacks and how a few had been fatal. He then proceeded on to talking about a new wet suit that is preventing shark attacks from occurring.
This video has taught me that if you have a problem (the shark) then you should not just give up but you should find or create a way to fix it (the suit). This video also changed the way that I think because now if I want to go surfing I will simply just go online and buy myself one of the Shark Deterrent Wet Suits and then I wont be scared of going in the ocean. It also changed the way I think not only in the fact of that I no longer have to worry about shark attacks when I go surfing but in the fact that now if I have a big problem I will not just go around or ignore it but I will try to come up with a helpful solution. I do agree with this suit because I think that it's a great idea for surfers who are afraid of sharks, or just surfers in general because even if you are not afraid of a shark you still have the risk of being attacked. My favorite part was when he showed the video of the shark swimming past the deterrent swim suit and he didn't sense it. I also thought that it was cool when the shark sensed the non-deterrent swim suit because it showed that the deterrent swim suit really works. My least favorite part was when he was talking about how many people die from shark attacks because it was depressing. This video did help me answer the question what matters to me because even though it was very interesting it does not really have a big meaning in my life. You may be wondering 'if this does not mean anything to you then why did you say it helped you answer that question"?. Well this helped me answer that question because now I know that i am not very passionate about sharks and finding a way to help stop there attacks. I do recommend this video to anyone that is into sharks, surfing, biology, etc. Even though this video did not mean something to me it was very interesting and fun to watch. I really think that viewers will enjoy it. I did like watching it and Hamish Jolly the man who presented it did a great job. He made it very entertaining and kept the audience happy. |
